Helping your Supervisor
With the many pressures felt by most Managers within today’s competitive environment, the responsibility for increased productivity is frequently left in the hands of the Supervisor. Many Supervisors feel quite alienated and lonely because they are often left by themselves to deal with a tough workforce. When faced with a difficult situation such as a subordinate arriving late for work, the Supervisor has two options. He can either stop what he is doing, engage the late-comer and the Shop Steward in a difficult time consuming hostile encounter, or he can simply attend to more urgent matters and ignore the late arriver.
In our research we have discovered that many Supervisors simply walk away and ignore the problem. The message received by the workforce is that being late or absent from the workplace is acceptable and soon becomes the norm.
Building the confidence of Supervisors is one way of assisting them to perform their duties properly. Such confidence can be gained through practical hands on training where Supervisors practice their skills in a series of realistic role plays.
