Pietermaritzburg also has its share of problems. On Monday and Tuesday the 4th and 5th August 2008 the trial of Mr Jacob Zuma the President of the ANC takes place in Pietermaritzburg. It seems clear that many people will be converging on Pietermaritzburg in a show of solidarity with Mr Jacob Zuma.

COSATU and the Taxi Association have called for a National Stay Away on the 6th August 2008. COSATU have done this with conjunction with the Taxi Council and the Taxi Association. This is to protest against the rapid increases in the price of food and petrol.

COSATU has called for Protest Action which will take the form of a Strike on Wednesday the 9th July 2008. This will effect businesses in KZN, Western Cape and Eastern Cape. It is highly likely that public transport, including taxi’s will not be operating on this day.
We suggest that you adopt a proactive approach and call for a meeting today or tomorrow with your Shop Steward’s and ask them the following questions:
Are they aware of the possible strike action on Wednesday the 9th July 2008?
